In our featured athlete series, we're taking a minute to get to know our Empowered Fitness Queens, and to learn what inspires and motivates them on their individual fitness journeys. 

We love Whittney Zumdahl for her inspiring and informative posts, and beautiful photography.  As a physical therapist and natural bodybuilding competitor, this Fitness Queen knows her stuff!

Whittney's Journey to Health and Fitness

I am a physical therapist, personal trainer, mom of two kids under the age of 10, farm wife, avid horseback rider and sports enthusiast and natural figure competitor.  I am a former collegiate softball player and softball coach and help guide the area sports teams in fitness.

My health and wellness journey really began when I was 14 years old and injured my low back while playing softball.  I underwent extensive physical therapy to avoid surgery and to continue playing the sports I love.  That experience opened the door to my career path and allowed me to see, firsthand, what taking ownership of your own health and wellness can accomplish.  I love teaching my patients and clients the power they have over their well being by the choices they make. 

To me health, wellness and fitness is not one single destination.  It’s also not  ‘one size fits all’.  It’s a cumulative journey to improve from the inside out that is unique and personal to each individual person. 

I truly believe in the quote, “If it doesn’t challenge you it doesn’t change you.” So, I’m doing all I can to earn my pro card in the natural Figure division in 2019 and I’m also continuing my education to better serve my patients and clients.

 

Whittney's Nutrition Tip:  

When I’m prepping for a competition, I have to measure EVERYTHING, but I also like to eat with my family whenever possible.  If I’m making a casserole, I’ll put a portion of the ingredients to the side and measure them individually for my portion. 

This Spaghetti Squash and Chicken recipe is one of my all time favorite.  It's healthy, delicious, and is kid friendly!

-       Spaghetti Squash

-       Precooked Chicken (seasoned to taste)

-       Can of diced tomatoes with juice ( I like Fire Roasted)

-       Mozzarella Cheese

-       Salt and pepper to taste

Poke holes in the squash and cook in crock pot on high for 2-3 hours (or until skin is soft).  When done, cut it in half and scoop out seeds.  Then use a fork and scrape the insides into a 9x13 pan.  Add in chicken, diced tomatoes, and cheese.  Bake at 350 for 20-30 minutes or until bubbly and cheese is melted.
